In the spirit of sharing things that make me smile:

Miles announced, as he placed his bowl in the sink and walked to the bathroom, “It’s TWENTY O’CLOCK!”

“Hmm…What happens at twenty o’clock?” I asked chuckling.

“Um…we whistle…and exercise…and eat!”

Chuckling. “Wait, what?!” I turn of the bathwater to make sure I heard him. “You whistle, and exercise, and eat?”

“NO! We WESS-LE.”

“Wrestle?”

“Yes. We wessle, and exercise and eat!” said he. “But I am willy F U L L. HEY! EveEE has noodles in her hair!!!”

“Yup. She sure does.” Que bathwater.

I felt down

down down down

frustrated and a little hopeless

Down enough that I started writing this sad little post with no periods. But I saved the draft instead of publishing.

There are just “a few” things weighing me down, and I knew it wouldn’t do me any good to list them out. I knew that what I really should do is make a list the things that give me an uplift. A list to the tune of: cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudel. Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles.

That’s when I decided to pause and write up a post about my fam, (see previous post) and focus a little on why my life is great. I might as well have wrapped it up in a brown paper package tied up with strings.

I feel better. Funny how that works.

Purple thumbs continued.

Just realized I never finished this post. It seams almost silly to do so now, but I feel like remembering some fun times so here goes.

After all the fun plucking plump grapes in the sunshine, I tucked the boys into bed in their special room with Christmas lights and rainbow carpet. They giggled and laughed with Daddy on the phone, and then all was quiet…until morning when I heard my mother call to come look out the window.

Snow, magical snow! Big, fat flakes turning Grandma and Grandpa’s yard into a winter wonderland.

We wasted no time pulling out the warmest clothes we had brought, and heading out to enjoy it.

Footprints, heavy bounces, frostbitten fingers, and snow balls. Snow day, freezy snow day.

Woolen hats and wonder. Snow day, bundly snow day.

Funny story: Brenden especially had so much fun playing in the snow. So much that when he had no one to throw snowballs at, he threw them at himself! …and he’d laugh and laugh. He really loved making tracks, and found that his fresh footprints could best be viewed while walking backwards. He spent a good while shuffling backwards all over the yard. He tried to convince me that he was going to stay out there all day. Soon enough, however, the freeze became to much for all of them. I brushed the snow off of them, and stripped them of their wet things. Then with warm clothes on, and tummies full, we sat down to listen to general conference. The words spoken warmed my heart.

The rest of the snowy weekend was filled with the aroma of warm grape juice, the sound of jars sealing, counsel from beloved leaders, and playtime on the technicolor shag in the basement. (I should mention my parents are renting. Isn’t the carpet awesome?!)

Forts were built, monsters were hunted with flashlights, and lions and tigers roared. Going over the river and through the woods always spells fun. Snow makes it even better. I’m so glad that going to visit their grandparents (both sets) is just as magical for my kids as it was for me as a child.  (If not more.)

BUG

November 12, 2009 at 6:10 pm (Big B)

Brenden just walked into the kitchen with his etch-a-sketch, and said, “Mom, I wrote the word bug! See! It says B-U-G.”

And there it was in perfect capitol letters. *sniff sniff* First word that he’s written by himself besides his name. They grow up so fast. I’m giggin’ out a bit! Now he’s sitting at my feet sounding out all sorts of words. It’s just so darn cool, I had to write it down right now.
